Finding Yourself at The Lost Caravan, Bangalore

on

“If you’re never lost, you can never ever find yourself”

Walk into The Lost Caravan located on Church Street in Bangalore and lose yourself in another world. A travel-themed restaurant, Lost Caravan aims to connect with the travel enthusiast in you. Surrounded by bags and backpacks with trippy walls, napkin holders that are license plates from around the world and one-liners like the one above, Lost Caravan interior decor is astounding to say the least. You even have an option of outdoor seating which is airy and breezy for those who want to grab a smoke with the lovely cocktails they have to offer.

 TLC-3

We met up with Avinash Byanna, the traveller and restaurateur behind this endeavour and asked him about his story. “Well, I am a Computer Engineer and used to work at Amazon. I was always interested in the food and beverages business and then thought, why not?” Why not, indeed. The Lost Caravan opened about two months ago and has received an extremely positive response from the foodies of Bangalore, including us! We loved the travel theme and the ambience blew us away.

Now, let’s get to the food, shall we? The menu is again travel based with fun quirky comments and pictures. Their drinks menu is standard but they do have a concept of a hip flask. Order your favourite liquor in a trendy hip flask and you’re oh-so-awesome for the night! For starters we ordered the Veg Quesadilla, Spicy Chicken Wings, Open Mini Burgers and a Varttiyathi Curry which is Kerala-style beef. First up was the Veg Quesadillas which made even the hardcore non-vegetarians at the table swoon. The cheese was melt-in-your-mouth delicious.

TLC-1

The Open Mini Burgers we haven’t seen anywhere else and we loved it. The burgers are open from the top and are the size of sliders. We tried out the veg, beef and chicken and declared beef as the winner. The Varttiyathi Curry Beef was tender and well cooked and had subtle flavours that blended well together. We moved on the Spicy Chicken Wings which were good but then we were distracted by the arrival of our cocktails. We decided to compliment our meal with Martinis only and ordered Chocolate Martini, Pineapple Martini, Spicy Martini and a Litchi with Passion Fruit Martini. We loved each and everyone of them and savoured every sip. Try them all, you will love all of them.

TLC-4

The main course was a Spaghetti Bolognese and Fiery Grilled Chicken with Rice. You can well imagine how stuffed we actually were but we decided to power through. Thank god for loose pants! The Spaghetti was saucy and had a rich flavour and the complimenting Garlic Bread was fantastic. The Fiery Grilled Chicken was spicy and the chicken was well-cooked.

We left Lost Caravan all-smiles and laughter and while we were waiting for the lift looked up to find an open-bag with the words Lost Caravan. It could have been the Martinis but we vowed to make sure it wouldn’t be long before we packed a bag for trip. We hope they inspire you to do the same.
