on

He’s a master of his craft, a widely loved and celebrated personality, and a fine specimen of the human race. He is Akkineni Nagarjuna Rao, more popularly known as Nagarjuna. But what may not be equally popular are some lesser known facts about the actor like his love for Hyderabad, the city that he calls home, and his undying affinity with its food. In a recent interview for Times Of India’s ‘flirt with your city’ campaign, the Oopiri star revealed some similar interesting things.

World Famous Favorite

“I’ve watched the city evolve from a quaint town to the bustling metropolis it is today,” he said, adding that Hyderabad’s food is one of the main things that make the city so special for him. And his favorite food? Biryani, of course! In fact, ask any Hyderabadi what their favorite grub is and their answer will be ‘Hyderabadi Biryani’, a fact that holds true for this superstar as well.

I don’t have to tell you that it’s all about our ‘world famous’ Hyderabadi biryani. It is also my all-time favorite food. I’m sure everyone loves it. Then there are the yummy kebabs — my favorite is from an age-old shack near Tank Bund; they’re outstanding. But one dish I am truly proud of is the haleem”, he said, adding “people from everywhere come to Hyderabad during Ramzan just to have haleem. That makes us special,” he says.

However, it’s not just the rice dish that makes Hyderabad quite the food hot spot. According to Nagarjuna, the fact that Hyderabad gets to devour both Andhra and Telangana-style food is a major plus. “On one hand we have the rich, flavourful Andhra food which is to die for; and then, we also have the earthy, fiery Telangana cuisine available which is equally yummy.

“If you’re here, you should have a bit of everything,” the 58-year-old quips, clearly a great potential candidate for Hyderabad Tourism. To know more about Nagarjuna’s thoughts on Hyderabad, read the complete interview here.
