Feast On Dim Sums, Pot Stickers, Baos, & More At The Travelling Dim Sum Festival At Shizusan Shophouse & Bar

on

Shizusan Shophouse & Bar is one of our favourite Asian food destinations in Bengaluru, so we couldn’t wait to try out the Travelling Dim Sum festival when we first got wind of its arrival! And, as usual, the team at Shizuan didn’t disappoint with an array of gorgeously balanced vegetarian and non-vegetarian dim sums.

We started off slow with the Asparagus & Kimchi Mandoo and were pleasantly surprised by the meaty mouthfeel of the celery and bok choy which contrasted nicely with the spicy gochujang – who says non-vegetarians have all the fun?

The Chicken and Water Chestnut dim sum were beautifully seasoned, and make for a great option if you don’t enjoy seafood, however, the real star of the night was the Seafood Sui Mai. While a tuna ceviche is advertised, the real hero of the dish is the prawns. Cooked to perfection, these practically melted in your mouth (spoiler alert: you’ll probably order more than one basket, we did!)

The Pan Fried Crystal Duck buns are really more Bao than anything, but I think we all can appreciate a good duck bao that’s sweet and sticky. We also tried the Tung Tong Peanut Moneybags which were deep-fried bags of goodness stuffed with vegetables and submerged in a creamy peanut sauce.

As we neared the end of our meal, we were super excited by the prospect of trying out a dessert dim sum, and honestly, hats off to Chef Paul Kinny for delivering this concept immaculately. The Green Apple Pie Moneybags lived up to its description, complete with a drizzle of caramel and raisins in the stuffing. We recommend a scoop of vanilla ice cream if you want to push the envelope of decadence.

Dim Sum literally translates from Cantonese into ‘touch your heart’ and the Travelling Dim Sum Festival is all that, and dim sum!
