Set in the midst of nature, surrounded by towering trees and sprawling lawns, By The Bay almost seems like paradise on Earth. Simple, yet beautiful in design, the restaurant is surrounded by pillars dating back to almost a century old. Decorated with antiques from all over the world and bathed in warm yellow lighting, the ambience of this restaurant is very cosy and homely. Situated in ECR, an addition to VGP Golden Beach Resorts, By The Bay is a fairly new restaurant that serves Indian, Continental and Pan Asian food.
Upon being seated, we were served two varieties of soup- Hot and sour crispy chicken noodle soup and creamy mushroom soup. The chicken soup was a blessing in disguise and warmed us up instantly. Rich and delicious, the mushroom soup is a must try.
By the Bay has a wide variety of vegetarian and non-vegetarian starters to choose from. Loyal to their name, their seafood options are impressive, to say the least. For all the meat lovers out there the Phuket Fish, Dragon Chicken and Honey Garlic Prawns are a must try. The perfect blend of flavours, with fish that literally melts on your tongue, the Phuket Fish is a stellar dish.
The sweet and spicy Dragon Chicken and the lightly fried Honey Garlic Prawns will leave you feeling content and satisfied. For the vegetarian options, the dish that topped our list was the Tandoori Broccoli. Perfectly marinated in a yoghurt base, this dish would have even the most devout non-vegetarian coming back for seconds. The Thai Crunch Salad with its peanut undertones and crisp veggies is a light but deliciously fresh starter. The Honey Chili Gobi, Crab Cake, Fish Tikka, and Grilled Prawns are also a must try.
Moving on to the main course, their aromatic Chicken Biriyani would have your mouth watering as soon as it was set down in front of you. Craving something continental? You will have a tough time choosing between their Beef Steak, Chicken Steak and Chicken Burger. The steaks are served with a side of mashed potatoes and roasted vegetables that are cooked to perfection. The hearty Chicken Burger which comes with a side of golden brown fries is guaranteed to leave you with a stuffed belly and a smile on your face. If you’re in the mood for something spicy, you can’t go wrong with By The Bay’s Peri Peri Chicken and Rice. There are plenty of delicious vegetarian options as well, that range from creamy pastas to yummy curries.
For dessert, you can choose from various options. Leaning towards something Indian? Their deliciously decadent gulab jamuns have you ordering seconds. For those of you who want to finish off your meal with something a bit more western, the pineapple pana cotta is the way to go.
