Elvis Presley’s Diet, What The King of Rock n’ Roll Loved To Eat

on

It’s pretty common knowledge that Elvis Presley died at the young age of 42. It’s also common knowledge that he was incredibly overweight at the time which led to health complications. Here’s some insight on Elvis Presley’s diet and his penchant for a Fool’s Gold Loaf.

A Fool’s Gold Loaf consists of a hollowed out loaf of sourdough bread, stuffed with an entire jar of peanut butter, an entire jar of grape jam and a pound of bacon. Not forgetting margarine first. And deep-frying it afterwards. It’s no surprise then that the number of calories in one ranged between 8,000 and 42,000 (and no, that’s not a typo).

In James Gregory’s 1960 biography of Presley, The Elvis Presley Story, there is a chapter on what anyone who wished to date Elvis would need to know (this was before he met Priscilla).

It reads: “Note for his future wife: Elvis loves enormous breakfasts complete with sausage, bacon, eggs, fried potatoes, home-baked rolls, and coffee. He has a tremendous appetite at breakfast. His wife should never develop elegant or expensive tastes.”

Mary Jenkins Langston, who cooked for Elvis for 14 years said, “For breakfast, he’d have homemade biscuits fried in butter, sausage patties, four scrambled eggs and sometimes fried bacon.” He was also partial to bacon wrapped meatballs known as ‘Elvis Party Meatballs’.

So, if you want to eat like the king of rock n’ roll, add bacon to everything, and drink loads of fizzy drinks. Although seeing how it turned out for Elvis, it’s not advisable.
