DNA Poll Discovers Mumbai’s Top Chefs’ Favourite Low Budget Eateries

When Mumbai’s top chefs aren’t whipping up a storm in their own kitchen, where are they eating? One may think they’re visiting restaurants similar to their own in stature and prices to scope out the competition and perhaps get inspired. However, a  recent poll conducted by the DNA, a leading Indian daily found something quite different – in their down time, top chefs frequent small, hole in the wall joints, which serve great food. ‘

Chef Manu Chandra

A partner and the chef extraordinaire behind The Fatty Bao and Monkey Bar, Chef Chandra loves the omelette pao made at a thela in front of Monkey Bar in Bandra. He also enjoys the Bombil Fry at Andheri’s Lakshmi Punjab.

Chef Atul Kochhar

This NRI returnee, who recently opened NRI (Not Really Indian) and Lima in BKC pays a visit to Bademiya whenever he’s in Mumbai. Indeed, Bademiya remains a firm favourite with city locals for its kebabs and rotis.

Chef Jaydeep Mukherjee

The corporate executive chef of Indigo, Indigo Deli and Neel enjoys authentic Bengali fare at Bhojohori Manna. If you want to eat like him, try the Koraishutir Kachori and Alu Dum.

Chef Paul Kinny

Like us, Chef Paul loves the wonder that is Hotel Deluxe, which serves amazingly authentic Kerala fare.

Chef Joy Bhattacharya

Like many Mumbaikars, Chef Battacharya’s favourite comfort food is to be had at Cafe Madras in Matunga; he especially loves the Upma Podi and filter coffee.
