The new vehicle, says the report, was launched in the presence of eminent personalities like Chef Manjit Gill, Corporate Chef of ITC Group, and MasterChef winner Ripu Daman Handa along with a crowd of about 150 people. The report also says that the vehicle uses electricity for functioning and will be used to collect leftover food from restaurants, households and residential complexes and give it to the poor. The aim is to give out at least 800 meals in a day.

The vehicle is also equipped with a temperature controlled storage space that will ensure the safety of the food. Taking this initiative a step further, the founder of Feeding India, Ankit Kawatra told IANS that with the strength of about 8,500 volunteers in 65 cities of India, the organisation intends to initiate vehicles like these in every zone. This he says is to make sure that “all excess food is put to its right use by donating it to someone who needs it more”.
