Daawat-E-Iftaar – Chennai’s Grandest Eid Food Festival At Buva House

on

Eid 2018 is set to be an unforgettable experience for Chennaiites, thanks to Buva House’s Daawat-e-Iftaar, Chennai’s first-of-its-kind food festival celebrating the holy month of Ramadan. It is scheduled for June 1st to June 3rd and has in store a huge selection of authentic Arabian dishes, all under one roof. The festival doesn’t just have iftaar delicacies for you to feast on, but also a wide variety of desserts, beverages, and vegetarian dishes to cater to every palate.

The Total Package

The crème de la crème of both the culinary world as well as the foodie world will be there to indulge themselves in the mouthwatering array of dishes. They also have a prayer room for visitors to pray and break their fast in peace. In addition to this, they also have a private dining area that is available only for group bookings that allows you to sit and dine in the comfort of plush cushions.

“This is the first time we are hosting a food event and the response has been amazing. The main idea behind this Eid extravaganza is that we wanted to give the people of Chennai a chance to celebrate Iftar in style and enjoy the occasion with family and friends over delicious food”, said Imdad Mecca, who owns Buva House, his ancestral place, now fondly named after his grandmother.  “We are hosting stalls put up by some of the most popular Arabian restaurants in the city and we’re sure the carnival is going to be a treat for the senses,” he added.

A Treat For The Tastebuds

From the mandatory haleem and delicious biryani to succulent kebabs and decadent desserts, Daawat-e-iftaar promises an exquisite variety unlike any other. They have stalls put up by reputed names such as The Biryani Shop, Mashawi and Abid’s for their Arabian fare and Shubh, Crumbs and Layers, Bombaysthan, etc for sweets and desserts.

The Staples

What’s Eid without the rich, flavorful Haleem? Stewed to perfection, the Haleem from The Biryani Shop and Abid’s reminded of what Ramadan is all about. Prepared with mutton and wheat, garnished with fresh mint and crispy, golden-fried onions, the Haleem was a delight in every spoonful.

Another mandatory Eid dish, the biryani, is an evergreen crowd favorite made with either chicken or mutton. Authentic Nawabi Mutton Biryani from The Biryani Shop and Hyderabadi Dum Biryani from Abid’s steal the show with their perfectly spiced rice and tender, juicy meat.

Authentically Arabian

A unique dish that Daawat-e-Iftaar has to offer is the Ouzi from Mashawi, an authentic Arabian dish that has its origin in the Gulf countries, made with very slow-cooked lamb or chicken served with rice and nuts. The Ouzi is a delicious treat to the taste buds with meat that melts in the mouth, and no one makes them better than Mashawi, the guys who introduced the dish to Chennai.

Something For Everyone

Abid’s Chicken Escalope is another must-try dish that could become your favorite once you try it. Chicken breasts beaten into their thinnest possible forms and fried in a crispy batter is what your fried-food dreams are made up of. Don’t forget to get the garlic mayo that comes with it, they taste fantastic together.

Moroccan Chicken Kofta from Abid’s is a treat for chicken lovers and tastes scrumptious with the salsa on the side.

Desserts Galore

Shahi Phirni, a dessert that is not to be missed, is an authentic Bengali dessert made with rice, milk, and khoya and tastes absolutely divine. Another treat from Abid’s that you would fall for.

Also on display will be the most delicious selection of bonbons from Zitter, with flavors like Chakkara Pongal and mango Chilli on the list.

Buva House also has its very own in-house stall selling scrumptious mutton samosas and chicken cutlets among other mouthwatering dishes. They have partnered with Fipola, the modern meat retailer and with several other popular brands to make the event a one-of-a-kind experience for the people of Chennai.

The 3-day long event is held at Buva House, Khader Nawaz Khan Road, Nungambakkam on June 1st, 2nd and 3rd from 4 pm to 10 pm.
