Customer Finds Caterpillar In Biryani Sold By IKEA In Hyderabad

A customer while eating a Veg Biryani sold by IKEA in Hyderabad on Friday, found a caterpillar in it reports First Post. The store management was fined Rs.11,500 by the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) after the incident for reported. The customer took it to social media to show the insect present in the food.

Abeed Mohammed, the customer who found the caterpillar in his food, clicked pictures of the food along with the receipt and put it up as a tweet thus alerting the Food Safety Officer of GHMC. The Indian Express reports that the management of IKEA and their vendor from Nagpur, Haldiram has even received notices from the GHMC. The corporation took a team of Food Safety Officer, food inspector of special zone and Assistant Medical Officer of Health (AMOH) to even collect samples of food for analysis along with the leftover biryani reports India Today.

“We regret the incident and apologise to our customer for the unfortunate experience,” said IKEA spokesperson in a statement to the Mumbai Mirror. “We would like to assure him and everyone else that we are investigating the matter currently to assess what happened and take immediate corrective action. At IKEA, we have the strictest guidelines when it comes to food safety and quality as customer health and safety are something we care about deeply.”
