The Milwaukee Wisconsin, Journal Sentinel reported the start of the ‘Fall Harvest’ of Cranberry, which is the Wisconsin’s official state fruit. The harvest is at its peak! By the end of the month, the harvest of the state’s No. 1 fruit crop will be largely over, according to the Wisconsin State Cranberry Growers Association. They explain that the harvest of the Cranberry fruit has been delayed by a week to ten days, due to warm weather. They were awaiting cooler clime — key to turning the white berries into a crimson fruit, the association’s executive director, Tom Lochner, said. The fruit is required to reach a certain colour before the growers deliver the fruits. If the weather is warm then the berry does not get its rich red tinge, Wisconsin leads the country in Cranberry production and enjoys sixty percent (60%) of the America’s supply. This berry is grown across 21,000 acres in 20 counties in the northern and central parts of the state of Wisconsin.
Cranberry And Feasts
Cranberry farming started in Wisconsin in the mid 1800, when loggers discovered wild Cranberries in the under-brushes. An industry was born since then. The berry actually gets its name from ‘craneberry’, not because of the color, but because the flower of the Cranberry resemblances the crane’s head.
