These Chips Can Tell Whether You’re Sober Enough To Drive

on

Drunk driving and the accidents – and worse, fatalities – caused by the same are an unfortunate yet common phenomenon around the globe. And while respective authorities and managements are doing their best to curb this problem, there are a number of establishments doing their bit as well to stop drunk driving (like this awesome initiative by Uber). Joining in on the do-gooder bandwagon is Frito-Lays’s tortilla chips brand Tostitos.

Tostitos has launched a new (drunk) people friendly bag of chips that can tell whether you are drunk or sober, and whether you are sober enough to drive or not. If it’s the latter, then the bag will even hail you an Uber to take you home safely in one piece.

How it works is similar to a breathalyzer. All you need to do is breathe on the all-black bag and a green signal appears on it if you’re good to drive. On the other hand, if you’ve had a little too much to drink, the bag flashes a red steering wheel symbol with a warning that reads, “don’t drink and drive”. Along with the red signal, the person also gets $10 Uber credit and technology that will allow you to tap your phone to the bag to order the car.

The Verge reports that the chip company partnered with creative agency Goodby Silverstein & Partners to produce the bag.

Noble as the initiative by Uber and Tostitos is, the Lawrence, Kansas Police Department, who can’t fathom how a bag of chips could take over their job, thinks differently. Here’s what they had to say about the bag:

The Riley County PD joined in on the fun as well!

Seriously, who are the geniuses handling the two departments’ Twitter accounts?
