Chipotle has announced that it will be introducing chorizo as a protein option to Chipotle outlets across the US from today. This comes after testing the response to chorizo in Kansas City, Washington DC and four other states.
Responsibly Made Chorizo
Explaining the decision to take the chorizo nation-wide, Steve Ells, the co-CEO of Chipotle said “The reaction to chorizo in the cities that have had it has been overwhelmingly positive, so we’re making it available in all of our restaurants across the country.”
The chorizo is made with ‘responsibly raised’ pork and chicken and seasoned with paprika, cumin and chipotle peppers.
Customers can now add the chorizo to burritos, burrito bowls, salads and tacos.
The chorizo launch is being seen as another attempt by the chain to win back customers after being at the center of several food scandals last year.
