Chef Mujeebur Rehman Gave Us The Royal Treatment At The Awadhi Food Fest At JW Marriott

India is one of the most diverse countries in the world. The difference in cuisines and the inculcation of different types of cuisines is one of the most interesting things about modern Indian cuisine. However, every once in in a while, we crave authentic, traditional recipes, to truly capture the essence of certain cuisines, and that’s exactly what Chef Mujeebur Rehman accomplished with the Awadhi Food Festival that is on-going at JW Kitchen, JW Marriott.

Hailing from Lucknow Masterchef Mujeebur Rehman brought to the Ooru his extensive knowledge of Awadhi cuisine that has been passed down from generation to generation. We started things off with the absolutely scrumptious Galouti Kebab. The lovely buttery kebab was made on the spot and just melted in our mouths – a real treat!

Another dish that we really enjoyed (perfect for all the vegetarians out there) was the black channa dal galouti – a vegetarian take on the lamb classic – and one of our favorites! Next, it was time for the mains. We munched on some delectable Bhuna Gosht Bare Ka, Bong Zafrani Nehari, and Tamatri Machli with their signature Sheermal Kulcha and Lucknowi Kulcha!

The piece de resistance was definitely the Lagan Ka Murgh a rich, nutty gravy complete with pure silver leaves for garnish which we gobbled down with some divine Chicken Pulao (fun fact: Awadhi cuisine doesn’t have biriyani, just pulao, which is a more refined version of the dish)!

We next moved onto dessert where we tried Doodh Ki Kheer (we call it payasam down here in the south) which was light and delicious. We were also extremely impressed by the Beetroot Halwa and the technically difficult way in which Chef Rehman managed to retain the bright pigment of the beetroot!
