Raise your hand if you have ever wished you could put on and lose weight like your favourite celebrities.
This is the one celebrity related trend that will never go away. Celebrities, especially actors, are constantly bulking up and shrinking down depending on the role that they’re working on at the time. Chris Hemsworth, The Rock, Charlize Theron and more spend months working on a movie and changing their body shape and size.
I’ve always been fascinated by the changes they go through and whenever someone writes about their strict diet to get that way, I ask myself if I could do it. And the truth is, I can’t. Even if I had the determination and the will power, there is absolutely no way that I could get that fit in the short time that they do it.
On the surface, watching them get fat and thin and muscly and skinny seems like such an amazing feat, but it’s not always fun and games. Bulking up might seem easy since you can eat almost anything, but it’s maintaining that shape and size that matters. Starving yourself and living on a liquid diet might also seem easy, but it’s not healthy.
Just because celebrities do it doesn’t mean that you must too.
Our bodies can’t programmed for that kind of fluctuating weight loss or gain at any given time and trying out various celebrity diets to look a certain way doesn’t always end with great results. Sure, there are some who might be able to maintain the weight and the regimen, but it is a lot of work and not as easy as we hope it would be.
Why it’s not for everyone
A lot of these diets include natural ingredients that are either not available easily, or if they are available in your local market, it costs an arm and a leg. You’re also giving up your favourite dishes, instead of just cutting down on the consumption or changing ingredients in the dish. If your body is not used to this kind of change and reacts badly to the diet you’re on, then you’re going to be paying a steep price to get your life back on track.
Being healthy does not mean cutting out everything from your life. You need proteins and you need dairy and you need all the things that celebrities might consider ‘bad’ in your life. Starving yourself of the things you love the most only makes you cranky and irritable and difficult to be around. A lot of diets have ‘cheat days’ and after going a week without eating your usual list of food, you’re going to binge eat everything unhealthy just to make up for the lack of it. Sure, you might eventually get used to not eating all the things you’ve craved forever, but that might take longer than you’re prepared for.
One key component in these diets is the exercise that the celebrities add to their daily routines. For their jobs, they have to stay fit and that means visiting the gym every day, doing things like power yoga and Pilates, running and keeping fit as much as possible and constantly keeping track of their diets. They might make it sound easy in interviews and might laugh about it, but that doesn’t mean that it’s going to be easy for us to do.
That said, it doesn’t mean you shouldn’t try it at home. At the end of the day, it all depends on your capability to be able to do the hard work, because it’s clear that it’s not going to be easy any way you look at it. Losing weight and being healthy is important, but there’s only so much your body can take at one time, make sure that you’re doing this for all the right reasons.
