Celebrate International Beer Day At Home With These Great Dishes

on

International Beer Day is almost upon us. And you know what that means? It’s time to get your beer on! Various different cities are having beer specific events from Beer Olympics to beer parties, but if you’re not the partying type, then here’s what you can do in the comfort of your own home!

Beer infused food is not really a trend that is catching on, but it’s definitely something that is becoming popular in certain circles. Not everyone likes beer, it seems, which is a shame because very often, beer makes everything better! So to help you celebrate International Beer Day and a weekend of beer drinking, here are some recipes you can make at home and share with friends and family.

What you can eat

Beer Infused Pizza

beer1

Pizza Hut is introducing beer-infused pizza dough into their menu, but you can have some of that too at home. Instead of water, they’re just using beer in the kneading process and then the steps are the same. You can still pop open your favourite beer when you’re eating this pizza, because there’s no such thing as too much beer anyway.

Beer battered onion rings

beer2

Is there a better way to eat your onion rings? We think not! When making the batter, just add in beer and mix it all together, so that with each bite of your onion rings, you get a mouthful of beer. And like with the pizza, you can have more beer on the side, because come on, beer and onion rings was how it was always meant to be.

Beer mac & cheese

A lot of people might frown down on the idea of ruining a classic like mac & cheese, but how can you say no to this? When you’re mixing the milk and cream for the cheese part of things, add some beer as well and voila, beer mac & cheese!

Crispy Beer Chicken

While your chicken is in a big dish, pour in the beer to marinade and soak into the meat, along with garlic, butter and salt and refrigerate. And while it’s in the oven, add beer to your gravy as well, so that when your chicken is ready, you can serve it with the gravy. Maybe skip the beer as a drink with your meal, or you know, don’t.

What you can drink

Strangely enough, there are people who don’t like beer because of the taste, but they do enjoy some beer cocktails to go with their food. So if you’re one of those people, here are three cocktails/mixtures that we think you might like with your food. You get to decide how much of each goes into your cocktail, but make sure that it’s a good balance so that it doesn’t taste off.

Shandy

This is one of the most popular and also one of the easiest things to make. All you need is beer and some Sprite. Mix it together and serve it. Obviously it is best when it’s cold, so make sure that you keep everything in the fridge before you serve.

Black Velvet

Another simple one, but it might be a little strong, so brace yourself. All it takes is champagne and Irish stout beer. Obviously if you’re going to use Irish beer, you’re better off using Guinness, because is there anything else better than that?

Ginger Island

If you’ve never mixed rum and beer before, now is a good time to do that. Of course the recipe calls for ginger beer, but you could always just use regular beer and add some ginger ale and lime juice. Mix it all up, stick in a wedge of lime for garnishing and you have a winner.
