Case Registered by Excise Department Against Facebook Group “Promoting Drinking”

on

If you’re like me, chances are that you’re a member of one (or more) Facebook groups dedicated to the occasional tipple. However, the admins of a Facebook secret group “Glassile Nurayum Platile Curryum” (Fizz in glass and curry on the plate) seem to have landed up in quite a mess after the Excise Department filed a case against the group for “promoting the use of liquor”.

According to the Thiruvananthapuram divisional deputy excise commissioner, G Muraleedharan Nair the admins of the group GNPC would be arrested soon along with around 30 moderators.

“The Facebook group has many youngsters as members. It is blatantly promoting drinking. We will also trace the moderators of the group and have sought help from the Cyber Cell. Efforts are on to trace the admins who we believe have gone missing,” Nair said.

TLDR: if you’re an admin or a moderator of a group which may contain content that could be said to “promote drinking” make sure that you only allow members who are above the legal drinking age, or you may end up on the wrong side of the law!
