9 Caramel Desserts To Keep You Drooling All Weekend

Caramel is a special kind of ingredient. Not everyone loves it, not everyone knows how to eat it and more than that, not everyone knows how to make it. Keep it on the fire for too long and it’ll burn, don’t melt it enough and it’ll get crystalised, it’s a constant battle. But one thing is for certain, it tastes good with almost everything. Whether it’s drizzled on top of your ice cream or your breakfast, or if it’s the main ingredient in your dessert for the day, caramel has a big and delicious role to play.

And to help you deal with the fact that Monday follows this glorious weekend (sorry to bring it up already, but we needed to warn you!), here are some delicious desserts that have caramel or salted caramel as a base, a layer or an important ingredient. For those that are wondering, salted caramel is caramel with salt, so that it reduces the sweetness of caramel. Caramel is basically a thick syrupy product made with melted sugars, add some salt to balance the sweet out with a little bit of a kick and you have yourself a delicious spoon of salted caramel.

So, are you ready for this list? Because as the heading says, it’s going to make you drool all weekend.

Salted Caramel Brownies

Make the salted caramel first, then the brownies. Then once everything is done, slice the brownies and cover them in caramel. Did you really think it was going to be that hard? But for a twist, you can add some caramel to the brownie mix.

It’s an apple cheesecake with a generous helping of caramel sauce. They say that apple and cinnamon go well together, but what they don’t realise is that apple, cinnamon and caramel sauce is an even better combination.

Caramel Sweet Rolls

If you’ve ever eaten cinnamon rolls, then this is basically what we’re talking about. Making cinnamon rolls at home might be a little difficult, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t try it. Because anything for caramel, right

Like making regular oatmeal cookies, but with caramel. The last step before you stick them in the oven requires a little folding of caramel into the cookie mixture. Then spoon up little bits and place it on a tray and bake it. Ding!

This takes a little baking, but think of it this way: it’s got chocolate, caramel and nuts of your choice. Wouldn’t you want to bake this and have your whole house smelling really good? We would.

Millionaire Shortbread Bars

Not too long ago, we made this dessert. We substituted shortbread cookies with regular digestive biscuits, but the recipe still works. So check it out and make your own version at home.

Snickers Fudge

You’ve heard of Snickers, the chocolate bar? You can make your very own bar at home, but make it fudgier and add as much caramel as you want. Each layer is made and frozen one at a time and then when you finally add the last layer of caramel, you have yourself a winner. Freeze and enjoy!

Salted Caramel Banana Bread Pudding

Not only are you going to cover each slice you eat with caramel, when you’re making the bread pudding, make sure you add a large and delicious amount of caramel into the mixture and between the layers. Because can you just imagine each mouthful being caramelised? We’re drooling just thinking about it.

Salted Caramel Ice Cream

Yes, you can have ice cream that is salted caramel flavoured and drizzled with more salted caramel, because did we not mention already just how awesome salted caramel is? Also, ice cream is awesome all the time.
