Cancel All Your Weekend Plans, There’s A Momo Eating Competition In Delhi!

on

Amid the entire momo ban hullabaloo, the one city that completely lost its cool was Delhi. Because let’s face it, ain’t no city in India that likes the steamed dumplings quite as much as the Delhi folk do. The ensuing social media outpour against BJP Minister Ramesh Arora after his anti-momo proclamation was expected, to say the least. But we are Delhi; we won’t stop till the chutney runs out to exhibit our love for momo. A fact that has been strongly reinstated by Delhi Food Walks.

What is it?

The food-loving organization will be hosting a momo-eating competition! That’s right, the Capital will be clapping back at all momo haters with a mouthful of momo this weekend. Anubhav Sapra from Delhi Food Walks explained that the competition is going to be held as part of Delhi Food Walk’s Street Food Awards. “We felt the need to protect our street food culture in Delhi, where momos have really evolved as a staple street food, and hence the competition”, he added.

When & Where is it?

The competition will be held at Delhi’s iconic and authentic momo hub Dolma Aunty in Lajpat Nagar on Saturday, June 17 starting at 4 pm. Momo lovers from all over are welcome to join in to the dumpling binge, the challenge is to eat as many momos as you can in a minute. Further, the participants will be divided into equal number groups and each group group winner will then face other group winner. Basically, like a semi-final and final match.

Staying true to the essence of simple street-side momos, the competition will see classic steamed momos, which will be available in vegetarian and non-vegetarian varieties for the participants.

“We have kept a registration fee of Rs 50 for each participant, so that only serious momo lovers enter the competition”, said Sapra. The organizers have already received over 500 registrations so the competition is going to be tough! But let the mere thought of unlimited momos keep you going.

Last day for registration is Thursday, June 15 so hurry up!
