Cancel All Diet Plans, Because Chocolate Butter Is Now A Real Thing

on

Just when you thought that Nutella was the best thing to happen to bread spreads, New Zealand’s Lewis Road Creamery releases the most interesting thing since…well, sliced bread.

Meet the Chocolate Butter, which is made with Whittaker’s 72% dark Ghana chocolate (a locally sourced chocolate brand that Lewis Road uses for their chocolate milk) and Lewis Road butter. This can be spread on pretty much anything you want – bread, waffles and whatever else your cravings are.

Founder Peter Cullinane spoke with Dairy Reporter and said that they started making butter about four years ago. And the idea for chocolate butter came about over afternoon tea with French pastries. “Right away we were off to the patisserie for more croissants and it was out with the blender to mix up the very first batch of chocolate and butter. As soon as we tasted it, we knew we were onto something very special,” Cullinane said.

On the company’s Facebook page, the price of the butter was posted as $8.99 NZD and when a user asked about the price, the company added saying, “We appreciate your comment on price and we realise it’s not cheap! However, quality is our focus, and our Chocolate Butter is made with NZ’s best butter and NZ’s favourite chocolate. We wanted to avoid loading up our chocolatey spread with palm oil, sugar and other artificial ingredients, as we truly believe Kiwis deserve the best dairy products! The raw quality ingredients do cost more, and we hope this makes sense.”

It’s available only in New Zealand at the moment, but Cullinane hopes to export it to England and Australia soon, so look out for it!
