Burger King, a global fast food chain well known for its burgers, is planning to expand its presence in India this year by adding 35-40 outlets across the country.

About Burger King

Burger King was started in 1954 and today has over 13,000 restaurants across 100 countries. It hosts approximately 11 million guests per day. The chain is perhaps most famous for its signature burger; the Whopper, which enfolds a juicy patty, pickles, tomatoes, lettuce and onions in a sesame seed bun.

Burger King entered India in 2014, relatively late when compared to other QSR counterparts like Domino’s and McDonald’s.

Expansion Plans

Perhaps making up for lost time, Burger King plans to expand aggressively this year.

“Burger King is a mass brand and the idea is to get into every city including tier 1, 2 and 3. The plan is to build a huge portfolio of restaurants in India. Objective is to lead in India as a restaurant brand in QSR (quick service restaurants),” Burger King India CEO Rajeev Varman told PTI. “Last year, we had entered about 13 cities, with major cities like Bangalore, Mumbai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Punjab and Pune. We are continuing to build at a similar pace like last year. We are making sure that we cover all markets,” he added.

Recently, the chain brought the Angriest Whopper, a fiery burger that was making waves in the US to, its outlets in India.
