Breathtaking View And Great Food At Lake View Cafe
Powai may be tough to reach if you live in another part of the city but once you’re here, you’ll experience a much quieter and serene residential areas. Away from the hustle-bustle of the city, the Powai lake gives an unmatched tranquility and when accompanied by good food, the experience gets enhanced. The Lake View Cafe at Renaissance Mumbai is one such place and we had a great time here.
Dining With A View
Besides admiring the lush views of the lake, we sat down to tuck in a delightful meal made by the expert team at the Lake View Cafe under the guidance of Chef Sahil Arora, the Executive Chef at the cafe. Here’s what we tried – Jiaozi Chaat, Mezze Platter, Chicken Baida Roll, Matke Chole with Achari Kulche, 18 Hours Cooked Lamb Shank and Fig and Date Pudding. The menu is North Indian but adds a lovely modern touch to the popular dishes.
Take the Jiaozi Chaat as an example. One would expect something with chickpeas or potatoes and loads of chaat masala but this dish consists of lamb dumplings, tamarind yoghurt, mint chutney and gram flour vermicelli. A chaat, yes but a meat-lovers delight at that and is superbly delicious. The Mezze Platter, though served in every other restaurant, needs those luscious dips with a soft khubbos and this cafe nails it. The Mediterranean dips offered are hummus, baba ganoush, muhammara and toum served with pickled vegetables and tabbouleh as well. Each of these were well made and delicious.
Amongst the quintessential North Indian delights we ordered Chicken Baida Roll, Matke Chole with Achari Kulche and 18 Hours Cooked Lamb Shank. The baida roti was soft, the bhuna chicken rendered a smoky taste and the egg mustard sauce made it simply irresistible. We thoroughly enjoyed the Chole Kulche as well and the achari flavour in the bread was highly appreciated. The bread is so good, it can be eaten just by itself too. The lamb shanks too were top notch and we’d definitely come back for more.
Our elaborate meal at the Lake View Cafe came to an end with a sumptuous pudding which is also not to be missed. It was the perfect end to the meal and the serene views and ambience made it quite enjoyable. If you live in Powai or any part of Mumbai, it is totally worth making a trip down to this amazing cafe.
