The Art Of Making The Bombay Buddha Bowls At SodaBottleOpenerWala

on

Meals in a bowl are making a comeback in a huge way. From the popularity of Ramen bowls, to the exciting poke bowls, people just can’t get enough of them. SodaBottleOpenerWala, our favorite Irani Cafe, recently got in on the action with the launch of their Bombay Buddha Bowls for all the one bowl meal lovers out there.

Last week, we were excited to attend a live demonstration of the Gujarati Bowl by Rushina Munshaw Ghildiyal and Chef Danesh Vakshoor. Of course, we were waiting just as patiently to taste all the other bowls and choose our very favorite!

Rushina started out by talking about the inspiration for the Gujarati Bowl, a vegetarian lovers delight, with fenugreek and potato stuffed ravioli dhoklis, a wilted onion salad, greens, boria marcha drizzle and a candied peanut relish, combined with a delicious dal, and given a Masterchef touch with a parmesan papad crumble.

Over a half hour, Rushina and Chef Danesh showed us their culinary finesse by making a Gujarati Bowl completely from scratch and allowing us to taste different components, as and when they were completed. The mouth-watering smell of ghee and spices filled the air as we waited eagerly to taste each bowl.

The best part about these Buddha Bowls is that there is something for everyone (or just you, if your taste buds are prone to mood swings, like mine are). Try out the Maharashtrian bowl for some spicy, red hot fish curry with stuffed prawn modaks, with all the trimmings (including jawla chutney). Konkan food lovers, this is almost as good as it gets.

If you’re in the mood for some vegetarian comfort food, then the Sindhi Bowl is your perfect go to. It combines brown rice, sai bhajji, aloo tuk, papad pasta, teewan papad samosa and leafy greens brought together by a beautiful Sindhi Kadhi sauce, and finished with guvar, bhindi, bhee crunchies and boondi.

The East Indian bowl combines the classic flavors of pork vindaloo with a delicious bombil fry and golden brown chicken potato chops all brought together with Kanji Curried Vegetables and sauteed veggies. So, literally, whatever flavor palate or protein (or lack thereof) you desire, you can try with SBOW’s Buddha Bowls – they’re a treat!
