Anthony Bourdain’s ‘Parts Unknown’ Will Continue Streaming On Netflix Following Opposition By Fans

Exactly a week ago, the world was left shocked by the untimely demise of celebrity chef and popular television host, Anthony Bourdain, who took his own life in France. The news was followed by some truly heartfelt tributes and mourning on social media by celebrities and Bourdain’s fans. Amidst this emotional outpour online, fans managed to convince online streaming giant Netflix to continue streaming Parts Unknown, which was supposed to be taken down this month.

Online Outcry

“Bourdain lived life like he treated so many of the dishes he consumed. By gnawing it to the bone. So many of us could learn to live just a little more like that,” read a petition, which managed to muster more than 6,000 signatures, started by Tanner Palin. “Netflix, this show isn’t just entertaining. It is heartwarming, it is honest and it benefits humankind. Please keep it on the air”, it continued.

Following the petition, a number of fans came together to urge Netflix US to let the show stream in honor of the deceased Chef. And voila, the entertainment portal took notice of the outcry and eventually decided to let the show go on. Netflix US announced its decision in a tweet earlier this week.

Meanwhile, the 11th season of the show is currently being aired by CNN, which also decided to go ahead with airing a previously scheduled new episode, set in Berlin, on Sunday. The Berlin episode was followed by a 1-hour tribute to Bourdain. The network will also run the final two episodes of Parts Unknown as per scheduled, that is, at 9 p.m. ET Sunday and on June 24, a CNN spokeswoman disclosed. The “Remembering Anthony Bourdain” special will be rerun at 8 p.m. ET Sunday.

Anthony Bourdain was in France working on an upcoming episode of his award-winning series, Parts Unknown when he was found unresponsive in his hotel room by French chef Eric Ripert, who is also a close friend of Bourdain’s.
