Andy George Spent Six Months And $1,500 To Make This Sandwich From Scratch

on

A sandwich is fairly simple to make, right? Just pull some lettuce, cheese and butter out of your fridge, grill some chicken and fold them between bread. Season with salt and pepper and there you have it; a decent tasting homemade sandwich.

Well, Andy George, host of ‘How To Make Everything’ has a different idea of what ‘homemade’ means. To make sure his sandwich was indeed homemade, he created his own garden where he grew vegetables, travelled to the ocean to make salt for seasoning, butchered a chicken, milked a cow to make cheese and ground flour from wheat to bake the bread. This process took him six months and cost him an astounding $1,500.

Watch the video documenting George’s experience and you’ll find you can never look at a sandwich the same way again. Note to the squeamish; skip over the part beginning at 2:30 seconds; watching George butcher the chicken may put you off meat for good.

Astounding right? Well, everything until his reaction at the end, where he deems the result of six months of sweat, blood and tears ‘not bad’. He then tested out the sandwich on friends and family. Here’s what they thought:

While the adults appeared to be diplomatic, the kids’ reactions were priceless. However, even though they didn’t appreciate the final product, these videos should make us better understand the process it takes to get food to our table. It’s a worthwhile topic to spend time dwelling upon.
