To cater to a growing demand for milk and other dairy products, Amul has announced that it will be setting up a processing plant in West Bengal. This plant will be in the Sankrail food park in Howrah.
“We have got around 17 acres in the food park from West Bengal Industrial Development Corporation to set up our centralised milk processing plant in the country,” said Amul Dairy’s managing director K Rathnam.
More Milk, Yogurt and Ghee
Once completed, the new plant will produce milk, yoghurt and ghee. Rathnam estimates that by 2020, the demand for milk in Kolkata will touch 20 lakh liters per day.
The plant, which will begin to be constructed in 2016 will help fulfill this demand.
Additionally, Amul plans to set up a spray dried milk manufacturing unit near the new plant.
