A Food and Drink Museum is Set to Open In Brooklyn

on

Foodies, it’s time to book your flights to Brooklyn. What started as a Kickstarter campaign 3 years ago has finally become a dream come true for Chef Dave Arnold. His dream was to see a museum completely dedicated to gastronomy.

MOFAD or Museum of Food and Drink is set to open up on October 28th and will be located in the Williamsburg neighborhood of Brooklyn. According to the New York Times, the 5,000-square foot space won’t be the museum’s permanent location but will feature edible exhibits that explore all aspects of food – from science and manufacturing to culinary history and anthropology.

What sets apart MOFAD is that most other museum are dedicated to one theme like ramen or croissant and MOFAD means to challenge that convention.

For instance, a project on chili peppers would address Christopher Columbus’ trip to the Americas. This opens the door for a conversation on the culinary exchange between the two hemispheres and the impact of chili peppers in regional cuisines across Africa, Asia and Europe. Visitors may ponder questions such as: Would Indian food be as spicy? Would arrabbiata sauce still exist?

“When visitors come to MOFAD, they won’t just see and touch – they will smell and taste as well…our mission is to change the way people think about food and inspire day-to-day curiosity about what we eat and why,” the museum’s website states.

MOFAD Lab’s first exhibit will be Flavor: Making it and Faking It  will shed light on the somewhat obscure world of the flavor industry.
