Khau Galli In Ahmedabad To Be Named India’s First Clean Street Food Place

on

Street food is popular in India but lately concerns have been risen by food authorities about hygiene and food safety. Many training programmes have even been taken up to maintain cleanliness. Meanwhile, a street food lane called Kankaria Lake in Ahmedabad is about to bag the title of India’s first clean street food hub reports F&B News. The lane is also the first one to embrace the Clean Street Food Project by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI).

Gujarat’s Street Food The Cleanest

The news was confirmed to the publication by the Food Drug and Control Administration (FDCA) of Gujarat and they’ve said that the title will soon be declared for Kankaria Lake. In fact, the second place will be bagged by yet another street food lane, Law Garden also from the same state. “Kankaria Lake and Law Garden, also known as Khau Galli in Ahmedabad, are the two places which are considered to be declared as clean street food hubs. We are now in the final stage of declaring Kankaria Lake as the country’s first clean street food hubs,” H G Koshia, food safety commissioner, FDCA told F&B News.

“The auditor has already visited the place and submitted his audit report to us. There were only a few minor areas on which we were told to rework. We have worked on them and invited the auditor to revisit the place for inspection. We are very positive that in the next two weeks, we will be declaring Kankaria Lake as India’s first clean street food hub with the FSSAI logo,” he added.

Speaking about the changes that will come with the title, Koshia said, “With this tag of clean street food hub by FSSAI, it will get a value addition. All the vendors are following the necessary procedures, including wearing apparel, hand and head gloves, using packaged water, maintaining cleanliness around the stall, using carpets, etc.”
