9 Omelets To Take You Around The World’s Breakfast Table


“How would you like your eggs?” is a common question during the morning hours but lets turn our swank up a notch and make it “how would you like your omelet this morning?” Here’s how people are having their omelets around the world (and you should too every once in a while).


  1. Japan


A Japanese omelet, or a tamagoyaki is prepared in a rectangular skillet and it’s a three-fold process. The end result is the most perfectly cubed and fluffy omelet you’d have ever seen.

Frittata de Patate

The Italian even name their food in the most fancy way possible. The frittata de patate – potato omelet – is the classic way of preparing the Italian omelet. Loaded with cheese and herbs, this omelet is a sumptuous meal in itself.


  1. Korea


No, they don’t put Kimchi in their eggs – as cool as that sounds. Folded with spams, enoki mushroom, white and green onion, the Korean take their omelet rather seriously. The dish is a full feast complete with seaweed and rice.

Laden with green bell peppers, olives, onions, feta and spinach the Greek omelet is more like a healthy salad put together in an omelet. And we aren’t complaining!

Much like the Jamaican, their omelet too is vibrant and cheery. Complete with generous amounts of cheese, this omelet is the perfect sumptuous start to a cheese-lover’s day.

Kai Jiew

Think Thai and the first few ingredients that come to mind are curry, basil and coconut. But the Thai omelet (Kai Jiew) uses none of it and the eggs are in fact beaten with a dash of fish, oyster or soy sauce. The mixture is traditionally deep fried in a wok although there does exist a healthier non-stick-less-oil version.

The Chinese keep their omelet simple with some shrimps (or any other meat), vegetables and spring onions with a dash of Chinese spices. Yep, real simple!

Traditionally the French like their omelet nice, clean and simple with just a dash of salt and pepper, sans any browning whilst cooking and seasoned with fresh herbs. And yes, that’s about it.

Nargesi Omelet

This omelet is as exotic as it sounds. Complete with garlic, onion, curry powder, turmeric and spinach, the Nargesi omelet is more like an egg coated vegetable dish and is as healthy as it is delectable.
