7 Pies You Need To Experience Before The Year Ends

on

Pie is such a huge part of American culture. Every movie or television show features a character obsessed with pie. If you visit diners and bakeries in America, they have at least one pie stand on display that is half gone and another that is just freshly made and put on the counter. Pie is a fantastic dessert too, and the rest of the world knows this simply because all of us have walked into a bakery and asked for a slice of pie like it is totally normal.

There are so many more pies in the world that we haven’t even had a chance to experience. So to give you a bucket list of sorts, here are some pies that you need to try in the next two months, so that you can start your food bucket list all over again on January 1st, 2017.

Peach Cobbler

This is one of the most popular pies that everyone has heard of. Pretty much everyone in Hollywood movies have enjoyed a slice of the peach cobbler. And there’s a really good reason for it too – it’s absolutely delicious. Filled with peaches mixed together with sugar and spices, this pie has a balance of sweet and a little kick that you wouldn’t find in any other pie.

Strawberry Rhubarb Pie

Lots of people see the Rhubarb pie and automatically assume it’s strawberry or raspberry, but really it’s just the same colour. But it’s delicious when made the right way. There are many recipes out there that suggest you mix the rhubarb with strawberry to give the pie the perfect tartiness that it needs.

Chocolate Cream Pie

Easy to make at home and absolutely divine even if you get it from somewhere else. We’ll give you a really simple recipe in case you want to try this at home: whipped cream and cocoa mixed together and poured over a crumbled biscuit base. Stick it in the freezer for a few hours and you’re all set.

Chocolate Pecan Pie

Here’s another pie that is super popular. Very often people just want a regular Pecan Pie, but adding chocolate to it is just making it that much better. You can either crumble the pecans into smaller pieces and mix it up with the chocolate, or keep it as halves and spread it over the pie base and then bake it, because it’ll all melt together and taste even better.

Key Lime Pie

This is not only a popular pie, but it’s also really easy to make. Once you’ve got your base sorted, the filling is so easy. Mix together egg yolks, sweetened condensed milk and lime juice and then spread it into the base and bake for 10-15 minutes. Let it cool and then either serve it as is, or stick it in the fridge so that it’s a little cold.

Apple Crumble Pie

Everybody makes this pie, so anywhere you go, you’re bound to get a generous serving of an apple pie with ice cream that will or won’t blow your mind. The key is that the fruit isn’t hard and stiff, because that’s not such a great pie to eat.

Pumpkin Pie

Given how much the world is obsessed with Pumpkin Spiced Latte, it would be a shame if we didn’t include a pumpkin pie on our list. It’s a little more complicated than you’d think, but of course there is an easy way to do this, so let’s go with that. Eggs, sugar, lemon zest, pumpkin and cream. Mix it all up and spread it into the base and bake. And done. Okay, maybe not that complicated.
