52-Week Long Food Festival At World Streat Food Delicatessen and Taproom in Mumbai

on

“Just like how a movie releases every week on Friday, World Food Box Office puts up a different kind of cuisine from a different part of the world each week.” says Shachi Mody as she talks enthusiastically about the ongoing festival at World Streat Food Delicatessen and Taproom.

This festival featuring curated menus according to delicacies of a particular region and it is absolutely amazing. We were invited during the Creole Festival Week and we got to taste some of the finest, lip smacking delicacies of Louisiana.

Bring On The Appetizers

As the Mumbai rains love to play peek-a-boo at times, the WSF staff were prepared with refreshing drinks like the Four Seasons and Hawaii in a Glass. The first one had four tropical fruits – mango, kiwi, strawberry and pineapple, perfect for a sweltering day. The second one, living true to it’s name exuded refreshing flavours of pineapple, coconut and blue curacao.

We began feasting with gazpacho, a cold soup native to Spain. With its notes of sweet, spicy and refreshing flavours it proved to be an apt palate cleanser before starting the meal. After the soup we were served a Sweet Potato & Pumpkin Salad which had fresh greens, a zesty dressing and the mild sweetness from the sweet potatoes which made for a delicious treat.

Spanish Devil Fries with succulent chicken and mayonnaise was a delight and will go perfect with a round of drinks. We also savoured some of the regulars on the menu like Sichuan Wonton Cups and Hunan Style Chilli Lamb and both of them were spiced to perfection.

Let’s Feast

We relished a delicious bowl of Jambalaya which is a delicacy in Creole made with shredded chicken, cut up sausages cooked to perfection with arborio rice and spices. A regular on the menu, Sumatran Lamb Rendang was also served to us. It was flavorful with succulent lamb curry brewed with spices like kaffir lime, cinnamon and pepper.

Sweet Tooth

A meal is incomplete without a dessert, in our case we had two. First was a blueberry ice-cream, made in-house, was filled with crunch of fresh blueberries. It was a sweet relief after a spicy creole meal. A traditional Mauritian dessert from the Creole menu was a Polenta Pudding made with stewed apples, dry fruits and the use of poutine flour. It was heavenly.

Tom Santosh, the restaurant manager and curator of the beverages at World Streat Food Delicatessen and Taproom made the experience homely and delightful. The chef, Vinay Rathod put up an extensive menu and delivered in terms of taste and flavorful in everything that was brought to our table.

Do drop in to attend this amazing festival organised by WSF at Nariman Point, Mumbai and they’ll serve you the world on a plate.
