on

Don’t we all look forward to a good night’s sleep? Puffy clouds, sheep and rainbows?

But sometimes, sleep just won’t let you have it. You’ll find yourself buying sheep, drawing clouds and painting rainbows, but Nu-uh. Nothing helps. But what if we told you, you could do something to make sleep come, nice and easy? What if we told you the anecdote was eating? Eating the right things? Now you’re awake aren’t you!

So here’s a list of fine food that’s best friends with sleep.

1. Cup of rice

Most of us avoid carbs at night. But a new study shows that, a bowl, only a bowl, of rice could have you counting no sheep and getting straight to the point. On the other hand, bread and noodles could make you lose sleep.

2. Ham cheese Roll-ups

Now you’re smiling. Eat this baby 30 minutes before bedtime and yes, the calories, but sleep will kick in easy. It’s also known to help your metabolism the next day.

3. Walnuts

A handful of walnuts is high in melatonin. Watch out, the sleep will come but the calories might walk in to. Stick to the handful.

4. Spiced Popcorn

The carbs in popcorn stimulate the release of insulin, which has been proven to control your circadian clock, according to a new study. Spice it up with cinnamon or paprika and curl up on the couch.

5. A cup of soup

Tortellini and tomato on full blast.

Warm and happy, soup will calm the body down. Easy on your digestive system, warm liquids are inherently calming. Smooth soups like butternut squash or broth-based ones like chicken noodle are good bets.
