3 Sushi Trends That We Are Completely On Board With

on

Sushi has long been associated with expensive, gourmet dining. Beautifully crafted with fish that has been meticulously treated and sliced, sushi has got a reputation for having to be prepared just so. However, as it becomes more and more popular, some people are taking traditional sushi and turning it on its head. Here are three sushi trends that we hope will stick around!

Sushi Burritos

Sushi burritos are sushi rolls that are the size of a burrito with a completely customisable filling. Originating in San Francisco,  the basic components of the sushi burrito are a sheet of nori (seaweed) and a large amount of perfectly cooked rice. After the rice is laid out, the roll can be stuffed with any filling your heart desires. Here are some customer favourites from Sushirrito, which was at the forefront of the sushi burrito trend.

Sushi Cupcakes

If sushirritos are the big daddies of sushi innovations, then sushi cupcakes are the beautiful, delicate foil to them. Portions of sushi rice and other fillings are mixed together and then placed in an adorable nori cup that are available at speciality shops. This simple video shows you how to create the sushi trend that is sweeping through Japan.

Sushi Pizza

The original sushi creators may be turning over in their graves over this one, but we’d really really like to sample it. Popular in Canada and North Eastern USA, sushi pizza consists of a crispy fried rice base that is topped with avocado, fish and then drizzled with mayonnaise and wasabi powder. Here are some popular sushi pizza photographs that are trending on Instagram. What do you think – is it something you’d like to try?
