10 Interesting Ways To Change Up Your Popcorn On Popcorn Day

on

It’s Popcorn Day and that means you have the perfect excuse to eat your weight in popcorn and just do nothing else or even apologise for spending the whole day eating something as delicious and ridiculously tasty as flavoured popcorn. Of course there are those who will tell you that popcorn should only be buttered and/or salted, but there are so many interesting ways to eat popcorn! Besides, popcorn is more than just an accompaniment for your movie watching experience, because there’s so much you can do with it.

So, this Popcorn Day, we’re giving you a bunch of ways you can change up your popcorn, whether it’s for a party or just for you when you’re chilling on the couch and doing nothing else exciting. First thing you need to do is go out and get corn – either unflavoured and in packets that you can do with what you please or get the packs that can go in the microwave – then whip out the rest of the ingredients and get started.

Cookies ‘n’ Cream Popcorn

Crush your Oreo cookies and keep it aside till you’re done popping the corn. Then mix the corn and crumbled cookies together till it’s nicely mixed. In a bowl, melt vanilla candy melts or white chocolate and then drizzle it over the popcorn and mix it so it’s coated all over, then pour the rest of the candy over the popcorn and toss it till every inch of the popcorn is coated. Spread it out into a tray and let it all set, then serve.

Margarita Popcorn

Before you get carried away, it’s a non-alcoholic kind. Once your popcorn is done, put it into a bowl and sprinkle salt and chilli powder over it and toss properly. Then add a tablespoon of lime zest and mix it nicely. If you want a little more flavour, add some cilantro and voila, all done.

Hot Sauce Popcorn

For those who have a serious spicy food craving, this will do the trick. Directly into the bag of popped popcorn, pour in a little hot sauce – it can either be Tobasco or Sriracha – and then shake the bag nicely so that it spreads everything and the popcorn is evenly coated.

Reese’s Peanut Butter Popcorn

You can do it with or without the Reese’s Pieces, but the peanut butter is crucial! While your popcorn is in the microwave, mix honey and sugar in a saucepan and bring to boil. Then take it off the fire and add in the peanut butter and stir vigorously till the peanut butter is melted. While it’s still hot, pour the peanut butter caramel over the popcorn and stir till nicely coated. Spread out on a sheet to let it dry and set and then serve.

Trail Mix Popcorn

Trail Mix might be a very American thing, something that you pack in your bag and take with you on a hike or a long walk. Pop your corn, then in a bag mix it with pretty much all your favourite things from crushed chips to chocolate pieces and whatever else your heart desires.

Cinnamon Sugar Popcorn

This is an interesting one, for sure, so if you try it let us know how it turns out. Use unbuttered popcorn, then once popped add 2 tablespoons of butter into the bag, some sugar and sprinkle a little cinnamon. Then close the bag and shake it all up so that it mixes and coats the popcorn. And voila!

Parmesan-Garlic Popcorn

Pop your corn and empty it into a bowl, then pour butter, minced or powdered garlic and minced rosemary over the popcorn and gently toss. While it’s still warm, add the Parmesan cheese so that it melts and mix it again to nicely coat and then add a little salt and serve.

Cheesy Popcorn

Seriously, this is the go-to at movies. The cheesier the better! You can get your hands on cheese powder almost everywhere and just pop your corn, cover it in delicious cheese and go crazy. It’s like having your very own version of Cheetos!

Caramel Popcorn

This is another cinema staple and you can make it at home! Either you can make the caramel from scratch – which is not too hard, just don’t burn it – or you can buy pre-made caramel and drizzle it over your popcorn. Depending on how much you want, you can add more or not.

Zebra Popcorn

Don’t freak out, it’s just dark and white chocolate drizzled over your popcorn. So all you’ve got to do is melt your chocolate in separate bowls, pop your corn and then spread it out over a sheet and pour the chocolate over it so that it spreads and sets and cools. And then you’re good to go.
